The central design choice

Why Lime, Green, and Cyan?

English gives the yellow-to-blue side of the hue circle an uneven vocabulary. This framework promotes three green-adjacent regions to equal structural roles so one broad “Green” family does not have to carry all of them.

A clearer naming progression

Lime represents the yellow-leaning region, Green the central region, and Cyan the blue-leaning region. Treating them as peers makes the framework easier to teach and remember.

A framework choice, not a natural law

The three families are practical naming anchors. They are not separate cone types, biological channels, or hard boundaries in the physical spectrum.

Established science

Light is input. Color is experience. Names are conventions.

The framework becomes easier to evaluate when three different questions are kept separate: what reaches the eye, what the visual system produces, and how language divides that experience.

Light

Emission, reflection, absorption, and scattering determine the spectral distribution of light reaching the retina. Physics supplies the stimulus, not a list of mandatory color names.

Perception

Typical daylight vision compares signals from three overlapping cone classes through several neural pathways. Color is a percept produced by that visual system and its context.

Language

People can distinguish far more colors than everyday language names. Languages compress continuous experience into useful categories whose boundaries vary by culture and situation.

What this framework proposes

A compact English-friendly map: eight selected hue families, three relative roles inside each family, and three achromatic neutrals.

What it does not claim

That nature contains exactly eight hues, that the 27 swatches are universal boundaries, or that Light, Core, and Dark are equally bright across different families.

Combines hue names with modifiers such as light, dark, vivid, pale, and grayish across a much larger set of color blocks.

Supply the hue circle, sRGB values, hex notation, and a historical list of names—but not a perceptually uniform naming system.
